In the evening, with our new found Metro knowledge, we went exploring in Madrid city and felt quite at ease.
I know this is a peculiar thing to say, but the highlight of our eating experience that night was the ice cream - flavour "dulce de leche" milk caramel and it tasted exactly like our*tinned caramel ( but frozen).
It was heavenly. I will have to try each type I see while in Spain.

(* Unopened tins of condensed milk covered in water, brought to boil and left to simmer for three hours, making sure the water is topped up so the saucepan does not boil dry. Allow to cool and open tin and caramel is ready to eat in pastry case/s or by itself.)
We went to the foodie heaven in Madrid as recommended by Kath.

However, we didn't find the recommended coffee leche and I have gone back to black coffee - until we return to Australia.
On the way home, we visited a local supermarket again for fruit, etc. I love these places. I spend ages just marvelling at the prices - particularly the low cost of wine, beer ( and I don't even drink beer) and spirits. Then I love looking at the meats and cheeses........and pastries ....and breads......and I still can't believe it,....so I take photos of supermarket shelves. Crazy heh?
