1 Oct Tuesday -leave Munich for overnight stay at Salzburg Austria.

We had no regrets about not going on the optional tour of the former concentration camp before departing from Munich.  I don't need reminding of the horrors inflicted on fellow human beings who had done no wrong.

Instead we had the luxury of being in this magnificent Munich Westin Hotel that I wished we had explored more the night before rather than the beer halls.  The ground floor 'lobby area' was so huge that, amongst other things they had two vintage cars on display and when you were at one, the other was too far away to see.  Leather couches, various nooks and crannies than lead to the breakfast room that was designed around a Japanese garden. There was such an array of food I departed from my usual fruit and cereal and ordered ( with sign language and certainly no German) a freshly cooked ommellette and then added something that was more like a bagel in taste, for luck.  Then, I noticed there was champagne for breakfast so I thought "Why not?"
Surrounded by all the 'beautiful' and 'interesting' people in such fantastic surroundings, I thought " Now, this is my kind of place! I could easily work or live here".  I was sorry that we had to leave on the tour.

Schnapps
It was about this time that our tour guide suggested that people who had colds should have some schnapps  for their colds and for others it may not be a bad idea to have some as a prevention measure. So in Salzburg, tour guide C bought a litre of schnapps and started the "daily medicine" on the coach for those who wanted it.  J and  I are all for prevention.  I haven't had a drop of this before. When I did get a cold and a bad cough a few days ago, I came in for special treatment - double dozes of schnapps each day. When the first bottle was finished C bought another bottle - for medicinal purposes only of course. So here we are having schnapps a day as we drive around Europe.

Salzburg
Such a beautiful city. It is famous for being Mozart's birthplace. It also has formal gardens of Mirabell Palace, the imposing fortress and ( of course) a cathedral or 70.

I was interested to see how they plant the flowers in the formal garden beds ie with the use of a plank set up over the garden bed.

The gardens were beautiful but I'll just finish off with an image of the fortress as we continued with Salzburg the next day.

  1. The hotel sounds amazing. I will have to add to my list of must do's. As you know I work in Health and understand the importance of preventative measures, so I feel I should test out the value of schnapps myself.
